Abstract

Rising tuition costs and college affordability issues are teetering on the precipice of a catastrophe. At the University of Minnesota, tuition rates continue to rise as public funding from the state continues to decline, despite inflation and growing need for student aid. Higher education must look to new ideas and methods for resolving the affordability crisis. Using sports-related principles, innovation theory, and social identity concepts, this paper offers a unique and proactive approach for combating this crisis at the University of Minnesota.
