Description

As the newly elected Walz administration transitions from campaigning to governing, how will Governor Walz lead the state and deliver on his “One Minnesota” promise? As the leader of a state with the only legislature in the country that is split among Democrats and Republicans, Governor Walz will have to win over Republicans in the Senate where they hold the majority while sustaining the support of the House DFL majority. How will he do this? MPR political reporter Briana Bierschbach moderates. Tim Walz is the 41st Governor of Minnesota, elected in 2018. Walz served six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives serving Minnesota's First Congressional District. In Congress, Walz served on the Agriculture Committee, Armed Services Committee and Veterans' Affairs Committee. Walz also served on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China. Before his election to Congress, Walz spent 24 years in the Army National Guard and was a teacher and coach at Mankato West High School. Briana Bierschbach is a political reporter for MPR News and adjunct faculty member at the Humphrey School. She got her start in journalism covering city government and transportation for the Minnesota Daily, the University of Minnesota’s campus newspaper. She has also worked with the AP, St. Paul Pioneer Press, and MinnPost.
