Abstract

The Area Burn Map Series is a set of United States Forest Service maps annotated by Miron "Bud" Heinselman. Information on the maps was obtained through years of personal field research. The maps were given to the University of Minnesota by the author in 1992. The maps were used by the author for his book, The Boundary Waters Wilderness Ecosystem (University of Minnesota Press, 1996).

Description

Includes 13 Superior National Forest maps showing the locations of major forest fires between the years 1610 and 1971. Individual maps show fires for the following years: 1610-1692, 1712-1747, 1755-1759, 1784-1796, 1801-1803, 1815-1827, 1834-1854, 1863-1864, 1871-1875, 1880-1890, 1894, 1900-1910, and 1911-1971.
