Rebranding & Revamping the University of Minnesota Duluth Safewalk System
    (2021) Wedel, Heidi
The University of Minnesota Duluth is home to the Safewalk system, which has student safety escorts walking fellow students who call in every night to their destination. Their presence on campus is not well-known and this project completed an analysis of the system processes and how they function, while making recommendations on ways they can improve student awareness of its existence. A literature review of the red zone came up inconclusive due to incomparable variables from the articles to the University of Minnesota Duluth. However, the secondary sources pointed out the importance of prevention and education efforts on college campuses since psychosocial situations can increase the likelihood of experiencing sexually violent encounters. The system suggestions made to help Safewalk grow can be categorized as rebranding and revamping. The rebranding aspect looked at marketing tactics to increase student awareness, like posters and unified logos, while revamping looked at collaborative efforts to make a unified communication system to withstand the passing of time. The Safewalk system is a fantastic resource that should be praised for its work in student involvement to create a safe atmosphere for others to receive their education.
