Item Primary aldosteronism screening: What is the aldosterone:renin test ?(2010-07-22) Berg, Jeannette ZinggelerAn uncommon but treatable cause of high blood pressure is primary aldosteronism. The plasma aldosterone to renin ratio may be used to screen for primary aldosteronism in patients who have a higher risk of this condition. Since patients undergoing this blood test are often asked to stop or change medications for a period of time before the test they may have questions about why the test is being done. This pamphlet was prepared to provide patients with basic information about the purpose of the aldosterone:renin screening test.
