The McLuhans' 2011 Book Theories of Communication, and Walter J. Ong's Thought
(This version was not previously published., 2022-05) Farrell, Thomas
In my 5,000-word review essay "The McLuhans' 2011 Book Theories of Communication, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I begin with the life and work of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and media ecology theorist Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955). Next, I discuss the life and work of the Canadian Renaissance specialist and media ecology theorist and Catholic convert Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980; Ph.D. in English, Cambridge University, 1943). Finally, I discuss the work of the American-born James Joyce specialist and media ecology theorist Eric McLuhan (1942-2018; Ph.D. in English, University of Dallas, 1982).
