Item Jewel Spears Brooker and Joseph Bentley's 1990 Book on T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, and Walter J. Ong's Thought(This version was not previously published., 2022-10) Farrell, ThomasIn my 7,200-word review essay "Jewel Spears Brooker and Joseph Bentley's 1990 Book on T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I provide detailed chapter-by-chapter highlights of the 1990 book Reading "The Waste Land": Modernism and the Limits of Interpretation by Jewel Spears Brooker (born in 1940) of Eckerd College in Florida and the late Joseph Bentley (1932-1988) of the University of South Florida (University of Massachusetts Press). In various places, I intersperse highlights of the work, on the one hand, of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and cultural historian Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955) and, on the other hand, of the American-born James Joyce specialist and media ecology theorist Eric McLuhan (1942-2018; Ph.D. in English, University of Dallas, 1982).
