Item Active Living in Scott County, MN: A Qualitative Analysis of Barriers to and Facilitators of Physical Activity for Somali and Latinx Women(Resilient Communities Project (RCP), University of Minnesota, 2019) Brown, Calla; Boesch, Tyler; Yun, Heejung; Lawler, Katie; Acikgo, MeralThis project was completed as part of a year-long partnership between Scott County and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (http://www.rcp.umn.edu). The goal of this project was to investigate the facilitators and barriers of exercise for self-identified Somali and Latinx young adult women in Scott County. Scott County project lead Lindsay Nelson collaborated with students in Dr. Greta Friedmann-Sanchez’ course, PA 5041, to conduct interviews with Somali and Latinx women. A final student report is available.Item Creating Mobility Hubs to Connect Transportation Modes(Resilient Communities Project (RCP), University of Minnesota, 2020) Eliot, Raymond; Hong, Christina; Hughey, MathiasThis project was completed as part of a year-long partnership between SmartLink, Scott County and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (http://www.rcp.umn.edu). The goal of this project was to envision the design of Mobility Hubs and how they can function in a suburban setting and specifically how the Marschall Road Transit Station in Shakopee can transform into a hub. SmartLink project lead Alan Herrmann collaborated with students in Dr. Fernando Burga’s courses, PA 5211 and PA 8991, to create a series of research posters that provide an overview of shared mobility hubs, best practices and recommendations, redesign concepts, and land use, network, and site analysis. The goal of this project was to identify community-driven solutions to increase physical activity among Somali residents in the City of Savage, located in Scott County. Scott County project lead Lindsay Nelson collaborated with students in LisaBeth Barajas’ course, PA 8081: Public Engagement Capstone, to administer and analyze the results of a resident survey, develop community mapping resources, create a focus group guide, and build relationships with property managers to facilitate future engagement.
