Item The Basic Holmesian Library: An Exhibit Based on Shaw's List of 100(University of Minnesota Libraries, 2001-06) Johnson, Timothy J; McKuras, Julie“Some years ago I staged an exhibition of what I then considered to be the One Hundred Basic Books, pamphlets and periodicals relating to Sherlock Holmes.” So wrote John Bennett Shaw in a short introduction to his first official compilation of these books, pamphlets and periodicals, which he titled “The Basic Holmesian Library.” His goal was to give “an in-depth view of the entire Holmesian culture,” and while he admitted the difficulty encountered in choosing what to include out of so many fine writings, he approached this daunting task with the enthusiasm of one who truly understood the meaning of Collecting Sherlockiana. Shaw’s list of the Basic Holmesian Library, which he revised in 1983 and 1987, has continued to serve many a collector. In 1995, a year after his death, Shaw’s Sherlock Holmes Library was formally dedicated at the University of Minnesota. His list of 100 items was revised that year by E. W. McDiarmid and Peter E. Blau in an effort to focus on more attainable items. In 1996, Carl William Thiel published an annotated collector’s guide to Shaw’s list. Two years later, Catherine Cooke published Shaw’s most recently revised Basic Holmesian Library and included his essay on collecting Sherlockiana. This exhibit catalog traces these revisions in the original list.Item A Celebration of the Whittington Press(University of Minnesota Libraries, 2016) Johnson, Timothy JEssay and checklist for an exhibition mounted by the University Libraries.Item Dark Places, Wicked Companions and Strange Experiences: A Companion Essay and Checklist to the Exhibit(University of Minnesota Libraries, 2019-08) Johnson, Timothy JA companion essay and checklist to the exhibition "Dark Places, Wicked Companions and Strange Experiences" from the Sherlock Holmes Collections of the University of Minnesota Libraries. Who was Martin Luther? Was he a progressive who brought needed changes to a church riddled with corruption and theologically adrift, or was he at the end of the day a social conservative who sided with the establishment and backed away from the revolutionary implications of his teaching? Luther and the World Turned Upside Down. Prophecy, Revolution, and the End of Time is an exhibit constructed to help us think through the often contradictory impulses that ran through this individual who more than anyone else transformed the religious landscape of medieval Europe. It offers clues and insights into Luther’s world and helps us think through these complicated questions.Item MERGE: Materials Methods Minds(2012-12-19) Carlson, Anna; Boudewyns, Deborah K. By removing dividing lines between campuses and disciplines, the work submitted for this show exposes a cross-section of the multidisciplinary approaches artists and designers are using to combine materials and techniques to produce objects that speak of process, conflict, and reciprocity. The artists and designers used a variety of tangible materials including yarn, paper, ink, and thread to manifest the complex conceptual material derived from memory, contrast, environment, and ecology.Item The Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes: An Exhibition of Items from the Sherlock Holmes Collections(University of Minnesota Libraries, 2016-06) Johnson, Timothy JEssay and exhibition checklist for The Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes, an exhibition displayed by the University Libraries in the Elmer L.
