    Diversifying Agricultural Land with Perennial Crops

    This project was completed as part of a year-long partnership between Scott County and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (http://www.rcp.umn.edu). The goal of this project was to assess the challenges and opportunities in promoting native prairie plantings and cover crops among farmers in Scott County. Scott County project lead Paul Nelson collaborated with students in Dr. Mae Davenport’s course, ESPM 5245, to engage stakeholders through interviews to understand perceptions of perennial crops within local farming culture, as well as opportunities for the Scott County Watershed Management Organization (WMO) to facilitate broader implementation of perennial crops. A final student report and presentation slides from the project are available.
