Item Growing Winter Tourism: Four touchstones for growing revenue in winter months.(2023) LeMier, DeeDee, A.; Hoelting, Joyce; Tuck, Brigid; Leys, Becca; Petel, AshleyItem A Resilience-Based Site Assessment Tool for Ecological Restoration Planning in Washington County(Resilient Communities Project (RCP), University of Minnesota, 2023) Petel, AshleyThis project was completed as part of a partnership between Washington County and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (https://rcp.umn.edu/). The goal of this project was to explore the advantages and disadvantages of active land management and passive land management approaches. Washington County project leads Dan MacSwain and Connor Schaefer collaborated with a graduate student completing their Horticultural Science Master's Degree capstone project to build a resilience-based site assessment tool for common ecosystem types found in Washington County: upland prairie, oak savanna, deciduous forest, and palustrine wetland. A final student report, which includes the site-assessment tool, and a poster summarizing the project are available.Item Tourism for Richfield: A Sustainable Community Development Approach(2023-11-10) LeMier, DeeDee, A.; Hoelting, Joyce; Tuck, Brigid; Choi, Ami; Petel, AshleyThis report presents the findings of the Tourism Assessment Program conducted by the University of Minnesota Tourism Center for Visit Richfield. The program aimed to identify marketing opportunities to attract tourists to the City of Richfield and explore sustainable community development approaches. The report includes observations and recommendations based on community and business surveys, economic analysis, expert team visits, and mobile data findings. The report suggests three touchstones for community tourism development in Richfield: embracing hometown experiences, embracing the role as a metro hub, and attracting travelers to iconic destinations. Additionally, the report provides further recommendations and appendices with detailed findings from each component of the program.
