A Snapshot of Six Academic Library Institutions’ Data Repository and Curation Services(Journal of eScience Librarianship, 2017-02-28) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire; Hswe, PatriciaObjective: Many academic and research institutions are exploring opportunities to better support researchers in sharing their data. As partners in the Data Curation Network project, our six institutions developed a comparison of the current levels of support provided for researchers to meet their data sharing goals through library-based data repository and curation services. Methods: Each institutional lead provided a written summary of their services based on a previously developed structure, followed by group discussion and refinement of descriptions. Service areas assessed include the repository services for data, technologies used, policies, and staffing in place. Conclusions: Through this process we aim to better define the current levels of support offered by our institutions as a first step toward meeting our project's overarching goal to develop a shared staffing model for data curation across multiple institutions.Item Data Curation Perception and Practice(2017-05-24) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Data Curation Services, Together!(2018-11-08) Johnston, Lisa; Blake, Mara; Carlson, Jake; Coburn, Liza; Herndon, Joel; Hull, Elizabeth; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; McGeary, Timothy M; Stewart, ClaireItem DCN Team Kick-off Meeting outputs: Vision, Barriers, Metrics, and Strategic Directions(2016-07) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Definitions of Data Curation Activities used by the Data Curation Network(2016-10) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Grant Narrative for the Data Curation Network project(2016-05) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Implementing a Cross-Institutional Staffing Model for Curating Research Data(2018-03) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire; Blake, Mara; Herndon, Joel; Hull, Elizabeth; McGeary, TimItem Implementing a Cross-Institutional Staffing Model for Curating Research Data - CS3DP 2018(2018-02) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire; Blake, Mara; Herndon, Joel; Hull, Elizabeth; McGeary, TimItem Launching the Data Curation Network(2018-03-22) Johnston, Lisa; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire; Blake, Mara; Herndon, Joel; Hull, Elizabeth; McGeary, Timothy MItem Launching the Data Curation Network(2018-02-20) Johnston, Lisa; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire; Blake, Mara; Herndon, Joel; Hull, Elizabeth; McGeary, Timothy MItem Planning the Data Curation Network: DLF Forum 2016(2016-11-08) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Planning the Data Curation Network: PresQT 2017(2017-05-01) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem Planning the Data Curation Network: SciData Con 2016(2016-09) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireItem (Preprint) Data Curation Network: A Cross-Institutional Staffing Model for Curating Research Data(2017-07-27) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, ClaireThe Data Curation Network (DCN) addresses the challenge of scaling domain-specific data curation services collaboratively across a network of multiple institutions and digital repositories in order to provide expert data curation services in disciplines and domains beyond what any single institution might offer alone. The DCN will serve as the “human layer” in a local data repository stack that provides expert services, incentives for collaboration, normalized curation practices, and professional development training for an emerging data curator community. Data curation enables data discovery and retrieval, maintains data quality, adds value, and provides for re-use over time through activities including authentication, archiving, management, preservation, and representation. Data curation requires a specialized skill set that spans a wide variety of data types (e.g., spatial/GIS, tabular, database, etc.) and discipline-specific data formats (e.g., chemical spectra, 3D images, genomic sequence, etc.). Our model networks these skills so that data curation services might be provided at scale for institutions of all sizes. The report includes a summary of the research done by the planning phase team to develop the model, which included focus groups with faculty researchers, controlled data curation pilots, and a survey of the library curator community to understand existing support and plans for future services in these areas. Our DCN model included detailed staffing roles, institutional participation levels, ingest workflows and curation procedures, and an implementation and sustainability plan that is grounded in one year’s assessment of the measurable metrics and observed demand for data curation services across our six planning phase institutions.Item Project Update to SHARE Community Meeting(2016-07-13) Johnston, Lisa R; Carlson, Jake; Hudson-Vitale, Cynthia; Imker, Heidi; Kozlowski, Wendy; Olendorf, Robert; Stewart, Claire
