Item Supporting Recovery in Parents with Co-Occurring Disorders in Child Welfare (PN #26)(Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW), School of Social Work, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota, 2016) Ward, A; Barry, K; Laliberte, T; Meyer-Kalos, PRoughly 7.9 million adults have co-occurring mental and chemical health disorders in the United States (Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, 2014). Only 7.4% of these individuals receive treatment for both conditions, and a staggering 55.8% receive no treatment at all (SAMHSA, 2010). Maintaining a recovery-oriented perspective in the child welfare process can help parents and their families struggling with co-occurring disorders (COD) connect to integrated treatment and build confidence in a longer-term process of recovery.
