Every 10 years, municipalities in the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area are required to update their comprehensive plans. The next update is due by 2018. The purpose of this project was to develop a public engagement plan for Brooklyn Park’s upcoming comprehensive plan update process. A team of five graduate students in Kathy Quick’s PA 5145: Civic Participation in Public Affairs course collaborated with City of Brooklyn Park project lead Cindy Sherman to develop recommendations for improving resident involvement in long-range visioning, better engage local businesses, and overcome the problem of resident burnout through over-engagement. The students' final report is available.Item Comparative Housing Market Analysis: Minnetonka and Surrounding Communities(Resilient Communities Project (RCP), University of Minnesota, 2012) Huonder, Mark; King, Eric; Knoblauch, Katie; Tang, XiaoxuThis project was completed as part of the 2012-2013 Resilient Communities Project (rcp.umn.edu) partnership with the City of Minnetonka. Homes in Minnetonka are more expensive on average than homes in surrounding communities, and the City was interested in the potential "market leakage"--that is, purchasers looking to buy a home in the Minnetonka area but ultimately choosing to buy in a neighboring community--for mid-priced housing. Minnetonka project lead and community development supervisor Elise Durbin worked with students in HSG 5464: Understanding Housing Assessment and Analysis, to determine the mid-priced housing market for Minnetonka, as well as the neighboring communities of St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Plymouth, and Eden Prairie. Their analysis showed that Minnetonka lacks smaller, low-priced housing in comparison to surrounding communities. The students' final report and presentation are available.Item Cultivate Corcoran: An Analysis of the Corcoran Retail Environment(2015) King, EricItem Economic Futures Workshop: Carlton County, Minnesota(2018) Tuck, Brigid; Bennett, John; King, Eric; Chitrakar, SituItem Economic Impact of Proposed Food Entrepreneurship Incubation Center in North Minneapolis(2022) Tuck, Brigid; King, EricItem Economic Impacts of COVID-19: Southeast Minnesota(2021) Tuck, Brigid; Hawkins, Jennifer; King, EricItem Local Option Sales Tax Analysis for Brooklyn Center, MN(2022) Pesch, Ryan; King, EricItem Local Option Sales Tax Analysis for Oakdale, MN(2022) Pesch, Ryan; King, EricItem Reconnecting North Minneapolis and the Mississippi Riverfront(2016) King, EricItem Stryker-George: Plan for Action(2016) King, Eric
