    A Novel Synthesis of Benzoxazolone and Derivatives via a Ring Expansion/Reduction Approach (2022-03-04)

    Benzoxazolone is a heterocyclic aromatic molecule whosestructure can be found in a wide range of biologically activemolecules including but not limited to antibacterial,anticancer, analgesic, and anti-HIV, in addition to havingsome applications in material science. A well-establishedapproach for synthesizing this class of compounds is bycyclization of aminophenol derivatives. We present analternative route of synthesis of this class of compounds fromreadily available isatin derivatives through an oxidative ringexpansion and ring reduction approach. Variousoptimization studies and a range of derivatives synthesizedwill be presented.
