Item Annual Report 2022: End of Year Highlights of the Data Curation Network(2023) Data Curation NetworkThis report showcases the numerous endeavors the DCN supports, including information about our members, our shared expertise and community of practice, research efforts, and governance. The CURATE(D) Checklists were drafted in the planning phase of the project and further enhanced by members of the DCN at the First Annual All Hands Meeting in July, 2018. This version of the DCN's Governance Model amends the description of the Executive Committee and it's roles and responsibilities as a DCN structure; redesigns the role of DCN Director, now that it is a full time position; removes elections as the means of determining committee chairs and Executive Board committee members in favor of seeking volunteers; and removes Beta Membership as an option from our website, but retaining it as an option to consider when recruiting members to provide greater flexibility. This response drafted by many individuals, including Sherry Lake, Ricky Patterson, and Vicky Rampin.Item Level of curation self-reported by 100 CoreTrustSeal certified repositories (2017-2019)(2021-02-10) Johnston, Lisa R; ljohnsto@umn.edu; Johnston, Lisa R; Data Curation NetworkThis dataset extracts and makes machine-actionable the responses to the "Level of curation performed" component of the CoreTrustSeal application v01 (2017-2019). The author reviewed 100 applications in pdf file format and compiled the responses into one spreadsheet for further analysis. Additionally, the CTS application instructions for v01 were parsed in order to analyze the completed applications and included here in a spreadsheet.Item Peer Compare Preservation Practices Benchmark Report(2022) Data Curation NetworkDCN members participated in a pilot project in early 2022 in which partner representatives were invited to individual meetings with then DCN Assistant Director, Mikala Narlock, to share and discuss their current preservation practices, specifically with regards to research data. This report details the background, project methodology, results, shared challenges and opportunities, and potential future projects for the DCN and similar peer organizations. These conversations revealed that many members share challenges, such as creating and managing preservation metadata, drafting and sharing retention and review policies, or collaborating on the complex preservation of blended software and code. The overall sentiment of interviews is that each institution is preserving content to the best of their abilities now, while watching research data preservation best practices develop. This report should be understood as a snapshot in time and a benchmark of current practices.Item Supplementary Data for 'How Important Are Data Curation Activities to Researchers? Methods: Between October 21, 2016, and November 18, 2016, the study team held focus groups with 91 participants at six different academic institutions to determine which data curation activities were most important to researchers and which activities were happening for their data, and to understand how satisfied they were with the results. Supplementary data tables expand on the selected data presented in the paper. Distributed to US data repository staff and directors via email listservs the survey received a total of 120 responses. 22 responses were for non-US repositories and three did not provide a repository of reference. A majority of the participants self-identified as staff members with 52 staff and 34 repository directors. The remaining were 5 unaffiliated users, and 4 unaffiliated depositors. A third of the responses (68) were associated with certified CoreTrustSeal repositories, and 27 responses were related to members of the Data Curation Network (DCN).
