The archived zip file (ContUStStarDataArchive.zip) contains all the waveforms used in the study "Lateral Variations in Teleseismic Attenuation of the Conterminous U.S. and New Insights Derived from its Relationship to Mantle Seismic Velocity" by Bezada et al. published in Journal of Geophysical Research, Solid Earth, as well as the measured t* in each case. Extracting the contents of the zip file will result in 16 folders, each labeled with the name of the study tile for which they contain data. Please refer to Figure S3 and Table S1 of the supplementary information of the above-mentioned publication for the location of each tile. Please note that 4 of the tiles were analyzed independently by two people. For these tiles, the data for the alternative analysis is indicated by the suffix “_A” in the name of the folder. Note that event numbers in the alternative analysis of a tile do not necessarily match those in the original analysis. Within each folder, the data from each event is contained in a single .mat file (MATLAB binary format). The file names are composed of the tile name followed by an underscore, the event number, and the word “Archive”. Each .mat file contains one variable called “Traces”. This variable holds the waveform data and metadata for each station that recorded the event (only the vertical component). The information is contained in a MATLAB array of structures with as many elements as there are stations that recorded the event. The fields in the structures follow the convention used by the MATLAB application irisFetch.m developed by the IRIS Data Management Center and contain all the waveform data and metadata. In addition to the standard irisFetch.Traces fields, our structures contain the following fields: QC: This is a logical value that indicates whether a measurement was used in the subsequent inversion. inSrc: This is a logical value that indicates whether the trace was used in the source time function estimate. synthWF: This is vector with the same size as the observed waveform (which is stored in the “data” field) and represents the synthetically attenuated waveform that best fit the observed waveform. Delta_tStar: This is the Δt* measurement for this trace.
