Wilkinson The effect of intracrystalline water on the mechanical properties of olivine at room temperature Submitted to Geophysical Research Letters Contains 33 .xls files of Berkovich nanoindentation data and the FTIR data for sample M666-D. Each nanoindentation file is composed of several summary sheets (Results, Required Inputs, and Inputs Editable Post Test) and several sheets with the calibrated experiment results (Test ###). Each experiment sheet contains columns for (1) segment information, (2) displacement of the indenter tip into the sample surface in nanometers, (3) load on the sample in millinewtons, (4) time in seconds, (5) harmonic contact stiffness in Newtons per meter, (6) sample hardness in gigapascals, and (7) sample reduced modulus in gigapascals. Hardness and modulus have nonsensical values (e.g., 1.8E+308) at small displacements, where the area function used to calculate these values is poorly fit. For the FTIR, KMK_M666_D_120820.0 is an unpolarized spectrum of M666-D. The thickness of M666-D was 0.389 mm at the time the spectrum was taken. The .dpt file contains the spectral information in a human-readable format, with the first column being wave number in cm^-1 and the second column being absorbance. The matching file name without an extension contain data in a proprietary Bruker format. This data set contains data collected as part of a study to determine the influence of dissolved hydrogen on the mechanical properties of olivine. Nanoindentation experiments were conducted to measure the hardness of both pristine olivine crystals and olivine crystals predoped with hydrogen. The hydrogen content of samples was assessed with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). This data set includes mechanical data from indentation experiments as well as spectra from FTIR measurements.CC0 1.0 Universalhttp://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/nanoindentationFTIRolivinewaterplasticitymechanical propertiesBerkovich nanoindentation and FTIR data describing the effect of water on olivine plasticityDataset
