Jacobs, Lawrence R.2020-09-182020-09-182007-04-12https://hdl.handle.net/11299/216243The Center for the Study of Politics and Governance hosted a series of public talks by prominent government leaders as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering informed and substantive discussion on important matters of public policy. Connecting with Government will allow Minnesota's elected officials the opportunity to rise above the talking points and fractious back-and-forth of the legislative process to make substantive statements about issues of importance for Minnesotans. It also creates a forum for students and citizens to listen and raise questions with their elected officials. Tim Walz is a member of the United States House of Representatives, elected to represent the First District of Minnesota in 2006. Congressman Walz serves on the House Agriculture Committee, Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is also the vice president of the Democratic freshman class. Congressman Walz is the highest ranking enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress. He spent 24 years in the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major before retiring in the spring of 2005. Prior to his election, Walz was a high school teacher in Mankato, MN. In 1989-1990, Walz taught high school in China. His experiences in China led Walz to establish Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., a small business that conducts educational trips to China for high school students.enTIM WALZConnecting with Government: Public Forums with Minnesota's Elected Officials with Congressman Tim WalzPresentation
