Cervantes, Alejandra2018-01-112018-01-112017https://hdl.handle.net/11299/192728Situated in Fertile, Minnesota, this Fall 2017 CURA CAP project worked with the local community and partners to start the development of a master plan for the Fertile Sand Hills (FSH). A 640-acre site, the FSH is a highly used recreation area for local and regional users. A long-term goal of the master plan is to assist the City of Fertile in its application for a regional designation of the FSH as a park of regional distinction. Obtaining such designation would allow the FSH to increase attendance, apply for particular funding initiatives, and expand existing recreation facilities and environmental educational programs to serve local, regional, and state users. Additionally, short term goals for the master plan include addressing immediate needs of the FSH such as establishing comprehensive site management plan, raising awareness in the broader community, and improving marketing strategies.
