StavrouA selective, annotated bibliography representing different fields and their contribution to a better understanding of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The ultimate emphasis of this bibliography is memoirs and eyewitness accounts, both by Soviet officials who actively participated – as proponents or opponents – in the changes and events that contributed to and immediately followed the collapse of the USSR, as well as by journalists and foreign diplomats. Also included are a selection of edited collections that contain contributions by scholars and academics, as such sources were deemed to be valuable by virtue of the multiple viewpoints and modes of analysis that they address.
