Since its arrival in the U.S., numerous studies have been conducted to better understand its biology, ecology and economic impact SWD can have on berry crops. Studies were conducted in Minnesota, from 2016-2018 to further understand SWD in relation to wine grapes. The first study compared two commercially available trap-based monitoring systems to determine their ability for early-season fly detection, and consistency in tracking populations throughout the season. The second study examined the use of exclusion netting in a commercial vineyard to prevent SWD infestation. Finally, another study examined the potential for resistance to SWD among commercially grown Minnesota grape varieties. This study also included assays to determine whether juice or wine quality was influenced by the presence of SWD.
