Appendices D and E mentioned in the report could not be located.In February of 2012, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team played a home series with the University of North Dakota. During that game, a number of UMD students yelled racist chants directed against the UND players. When complaints about these chants were brought to light, UMD sought to find ways to bring awareness to the issue, and to work with students to cease chants that are racist, sexist or homophobic. A number of departments and groups have worked on the issue, to include the UMD Athletics Department, the Office of Student Life, the UMD Student Association, and the Campus Assembly Student Affairs Committee. In an effort to better understand student attitudes toward racist, sexist and homophobic chants, the Campus Assembly Student Affairs committee developed and implemented a survey in the spring 2013 semester. The survey was authored by Dr. Lara LaCaille, Assistant Professor of Psychology.
