Despite the likelihood of needing long-term care, most individuals are ill-prepared for these potential costs and retirement savings are typically inadequate. The state also remains unprepared for the financial challenge this demographic change will present, leaving state programs such as Medicaid to the brink of collapse at a time when state budgets are already strained.
