Based on the fiscal year 2012 gate totals of 1,369,515 visitors who came to the Zoo, its annual operations and visitors spending in the area generated $146.2 million in gross output, 1,738 jobs and $79.1 million in value-added to the local Metro economy. Impacts stemming from Zoo construction projects spanning five years (2013 2017) included $103.4 million in gross output and $55.9 million in value-added.
