Chari. 1 computer file (PDF); ix, 98 pages. This thesis studies topics in two areas of economics: international and labor macroeconomics. In particular, I analyze fluctuations over the business cycle of different economic outcomes such as sovereign debt, firm dynamics, and employment transitions. In the first chapter, I focus on emerging countries and their vulnerability to international shocks. The second chapter studies how firms of different ages are affected by downturns in a context where it is costly for them to find customers. Finally, the third chapter analyses the effects of interstate migration in the United States over the business cycle.enEssays In MacroeconomicsThesis or Dissertation
