Sawyer, Jake K2021-08-162021-08-162021-08-14https://hdl.handle.net/11299/223080Loss of MSNs in HD is accompanied by increased inflammatory cytokines like Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a major mediator of inflammatory responses throughout the body including the central nervous system (CNS) (Yang, et al., 2014 and Erta, et al., 2012)(Lois, et al., 2018). However, the primary source of IL-6 production in the striatum is still unknown. Preliminary data that I have gathered conducting immunofluorescence (IF) analyses in brain slices obtained from a symptomatic HD mouse model showed that IL-6 is present in both MSNs and other unidentified striatal cells. These unidentified cells are characterized as being larger than MSNs and presented higher concentration of IL-6 in their cytoplasm.enUnderstanding the Role of Interleukin-6 in Huntington's DiseasePresentation
