It is most commonly acquired from spread of bacteria from the vagina or anus. Symptoms include urinary frequency, urinary urgency, pain or discomfort with urination, foul smelling urine and lower abdominal pain/discomfort. Your doctor can diagnose this infection with simple tests and treat it with a short course of antibiotics.
