Biodiversity loss and climate change are major threats to life on our planet and regenerative design & development are the only realistic means to avoid catastrophe because they provide the solutions to fix the systems holistically, based on ecosystem working, the evolvable relationships & the feedback loops. Their strategies address the fundamental issues and extend beyond to support the growth of other systems. Regenerative design: A system of strategies that generates designs that regenerate socio-ecological whole. Regenerative development: A system of strategies that works to enhance the ability to co-evolve & thrive. Regenerative development provides framework to achieve Regenerative design goal to maximum extent. ‘Social’, ‘Ecological’ and ‘Technological’ elements are key for Regenerative Design and Development. With enormous development and technological advancements in the field of computer science and information technology, the world is connected more seamlessly not only with humans but also with digital world. Several digital tools are available to analyze various aspects of design and development ranging from buildings material to building attributes and even building systems. However, it is important to think beyond building and analyze these from systemic point of view with due consideration towards social-ecological approach which leading towards true Regenerative Development. Huge amount of data points from various devices like mobile phones, cameras, sensors, social media are available and can now be synthesized and analyzed to form valuable feedback which must be looped into our planning, design and development for creating Regenerative Communities and Cities. This presents the opportunity to explores the possibilities of using Big Data based tools in supporting regenerative design and development using frameworks for assessment of projects. ‘Responsive cities are livable cities’ which can be designed using ‘Tech’; however, to achieve this goal we need framework for their design. This thesis develops and proposes a synergistic Regenerative Responsive Social-Ecological-Technological ‘RRSET’ framework for designing Regenerative Responsive Social-Ecological-Technological Communities & Cities ‘RRSETCC’. In addition, this thesis introduces new and unique assessment methodology and metrics developed to assess RRSET elements and eventually communities and cities.
