The earthen dam was originally built for logging in 1880 and rebuilt in 1928-1930. A hydropower facility was built in 1909 and taken out of operation in approximately 1943. The powerhouse and portions of the machinery are still in place. The dam is currently owned by the City of Park Rapids.
