The project was carried forward under the general supervision of Dr. Lorenz G. Straub, director of the Laboratory. Loyal A. Johnson, research associate, made the field investigations, carried out the library research, and prepared the report. Maps, diagrams, and other drawings were made with the aid of Laboratory draftsmen and student assistants. Professor R. B. Whittington offered many timely suggestions and carried out the mathematics, the results of which are included in Part VII. The entire content of the report was reviewed by Alvin G. Anderson and Henry M. Morris, both Laboratory staff members. The paper was edited and prepared for publication by Lois E.
