Ten categories organically surfaced from the collection of almost 500 zines, including art, music, comics, poetry & fiction, hobo & travel, political, feminism, environmentalism, humor, and personal. In many cases, zines are genre-blending and fit into multiple categories. The majority of the zines in this exhibit are from the Marshall Weber Culture Wars Zine Collection. Weber describes the collection as “a great survey of self-righteous, DIY, politically informed agitProp artist’s publications” and “a time capsule of raw optimistic enthusiasm.” Also featured are several titles from a newly acquired collection of punk rock zines and a small assortment of zines on loan from local artist Mark Jensen. These are the first two zine collections that have been added to the University of Minnesota Libraries Gorman Rare Art Book Collection. The collection of artistically produced zines will be emphasized with a culturally comprehensive and national scope.enUniversity LibrariesArtBooksFrancis V.
