As a university, it is important that all students at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) are allowed to participate in all traditions and rituals in relation to death and bereavement to create an inclusive and accepting environment for students. The goal of this paper is to analyze the importance of inclusive bereavement leaves at the university, the benefit of such, as well as the implications individual religions have on bereavement and death. Using this information, a suggestion of bereavement leave lengths for students of a majority of religions at UMD will be provided. Each religion has different traditions and rituals, which should all be respected concerning bereavement policies to offer a feeling of acceptance at the university. In order to create an inclusive bereavement policy, the university would best be served by noting and honoring the traditions of each religion and culture and keep the policies updated as changes occur. As a university, it is important to show support for students when they need it most by actively trying to improve their student's mental and physical well-being with ongoing support by allowing the complete practicing of death and bereavement traditions and rituals.enUniversity of Minnesota DuluthUniversity HonorsReligious Determinants in Bereavement LeavesScholarly Text or Essay
