SchneiderMinnesota’s state parks are part of an important nature-based tourism industry that generates $16 billion dollars annually and provides significant recreation and social opportunities. Anthropogenic climate change will alter conditions for nature-based tourism and recreation. A Tourism Climate Index (TCI; Mieckowski 1985) was developed to assess climate-related conditions (ie., temperature, wind) in relation to tourism suitability. Combined with estimates of how climate conditions will change, future tourism conditions can be assessed.
