Advisors: Dean Current, Hikaru Peterson. 1 computer file (PDF); vi, 131 pages. This thesis focuses on market opportunities for Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), and the challenges and opportunities associated with their commercialization, based on the following questions: (1) What are the barriers and enabling factors affecting the value chains of NTFPs, and what are the opportunities to enhance marketing opportunities for NTFPs? (2) What are the social and environmental factors influencing companies' decisions to source sustainable products, and how can this understanding be utilized to expand market opportunities for NTFPs in the United States? The first chapter identified and analyzed several factors through SWOT analysis and value chain mapping. Findings indicate the current situation and market potential of NTFPs in a competitive environment. The second chapter surveyed businesses about their preferences and attitudes toward sustainable practices. Results suggest that food, supplement, beverage, and cosmetic companies prioritize sustainable environmental practices, gender equality, and community development practices regardless of size and supply chain segment.enMarket-based ConservationNon-Timber Forest ProductsSustainabilityValue ChainsExploring The Market Potential Of Non-Timber Forest Products In The United StatesThesis or Dissertation
