1:20 - Ford Hall when very young; in Wilson when Dave was a Geography student


What do you remember about the Map Librarian?
2:00 - Very little interaction with the staff over the years; interacted with Brent a little bit, name is familiar


What was the relationship between the Map Library and the Geography Department at the time?
3:00 - John Borchert frustrated trying to get other faculty members to use it more often as a resource; 


What was Dr. Borchert's relationship to the Map Library? 
4:05 - John Borchert was a visual modeler of data, strong appreciation of maps, cannot do geography without maps; he wanted to make a difference during his lifetime in how the Map Library was used, had to decide if the endowment should go to the department or the library, was not fond of bureaucratic divisions


Can you speak to the decision to create the Map Library Endowment fund?
5:45 - 1995/1996, looking for a way to create a lasting impact, leave a legacy
10:40 - Happy with the balance he had achieved; heavily involved in crafting an agreement that requires collaboration


How did he feel about having the Map Library named for him?
7:50 - Don't remember him saying anything one way or the other (embarassed or honored); sure he felt honored, but he was very matter of fact about it


Any strange or unusual stories or memories?
10:15 - Feel like we should go there more often


Is there anything else you want to add?
12:30 - Remember John Borchert saving German pictorial displays of representative life in various places in the world; Broek possibly brought them to the United States, department was going to get rid of them, but John saved them and hung them in the basement at home; early 1960s
