Abstract

In today’s art music environment, having a large orchestral or wind ensemblecomposition performed requires a massive amount of time, money, and resources. I believe that with all the challenges facing our world today, composers should best utilize these opportunities to bring attention to issues that we as a society are facing. While not programmatic music, my first four symphonies are each dedicated to one of the world’s significant current challenges: mass shootings, the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and financial inequality.
