Abstract
In my 4,500-word review essay "Temple Grandin's 2022 Book Visual Thinking, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I briefly highlight the book that Temple Grandin (born in 1947; Ph.D. in animal science, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, 1989) in animal science at Colorado State University wrote with Betsy Lerner titled Visual Thinking: The Hidden Gifts of People Who Think in Pictures, Patterns and Abstractions (Riverhead Books). I discuss at length how Temple Grandin's visual/verbal contrast is connected with the mature work from the early 1950s onward of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and media ecology theorist Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955).
