This manual presents the "Support and Guide" behavioral coding system to measure primary care clinician communication with parents, captured in audio-recorded responses to vignettes. It reviews the iterative process of our Knowledge for Parents Center team to create this coding scale. Across this manual, we review the "Support and Guide" communication framework, observational data collected, our coding development process, component and total score calculation, as well as future considerations for this methodology.
