Abstract
This project consisted of three different components, all of which related to the use of visual scene displays among young children. VSDs are a way of displaying vocabulary on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices which can be used to help individuals with various disabilities communicate using synthetic speech. The first component of this project was a systematic review of the current literature available on VSDs. The second component was a retrospective analysis to gather data on how effectively young children use VSDs. Finally, the third intended component was a research study involving college students and their ability to navigate the AAC device, however this component was unable to be completed due to COVID-19.
