Abstract
This paper provides an overview to the approaches to job design that have been taken by managers, and an overview of the empirical observations that relate to employee reactions to variations in job design. Following attempts to develop a portrait of workforce, and organizations and their work 2000, we attempt to discuss implications for research into job design --measurement issues and research agendas are highlighted.
