Abstract

Mobile robotic platforms often have capabilities of using numerous types of sensors for completing a task. Some platforms are severely restricted in sensing capabilities due to size or form factor. In these instances, selection of sensing devices either helps or impedes the platform s mission performance. The Scout robot is one such platform. Due to this limited size, the Scout platform relies almost entirely on vision processing to accomplish its goals. This project examines the possibilities of using additional sensors to improve the mission performance at a minimal cost in size and complexity.
