Abstract

Massive outflows are responsible for expelling gas from galaxies into the extragalactic voids of space. Outflows are composed mainly of hydrogen, but also contain trace amounts of heavier elements such as silicone which can be used to map the gas velocity. Using semi-analytical methods, in this work we study the silicon spectral features in a sample of nearby galaxies drawn from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph Legacy Archive Spectroscopic Survey (CLASSY) to constrain the properties of their outflows.
