Abstract

This workbook is designed as a practical professional development resource for nurse educators at all levels, from clinical instructors and adjunct faculty to seasoned professors and curriculum designers. It provides a structured, evidence-informed pathway to understanding, engaging with, and co-creating alongside Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant. Nursing education stands at a pivotal moment. The integration of artificial intelligence into health professions education is no longer a future consideration — it is a present imperative. Whether designing simulation experiences, writing exam questions, analyzing research, crafting policy briefs, or mentoring students, nurse educators can leverage AI as a powerful co-creative partner. Claude is a large language model (LLM) developed by Anthropic. It is trained on vast datasets of text and learns to generate coherent, contextually appropriate responses through a process called reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). Unlike a search engine that retrieves pre-existing content, Claude generates original text based on learned patterns and the context you provide. Key characteristics relevant to nurse educators: Claude can reason, synthesize, and explain complex information in plain language. Claude does not have real-time internet access unless specifically enabled it draws on training data. Claude is designed with Constitutional AI principles prioritizing helpfulness, harmlessness, and honesty. Claude improves with clear context the more specific your input, the better the output.
