Abstract
In the wide-ranging and occasionally deeply personal 17,908-word review essay "J. R. R. Tolkien's Fantasy Novel The Lord of the Rings, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I mention (1) the novelist J. R. R. Tolkien by name 166 tiems and (2) my former teacher Walter J. Ong by name 122 times as I discuss the Tolkien specialist Tom Shippey's work and the Tolkien specialist Michael Drout's work.
