Description

The “Principles & Priorities” exercise, developed by the non-partisan Concord Coalition, calls for you to get a taste of how complicated budget decisions can be for members of Congress. You will discuss and vote on dozens of proposals involving taxes, defense, Medicare, Social Security and other domestic issues. Over the years we’ve heard lots of credible warnings about the federal debt and deficit. Economists and public policy experts from a wide variety of backgrounds agree that current fiscal policy is simply unsustainable. At this event at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, you and your fellow citizens will have a unique opportunity to participate in an interactive exercise in which you will face some of the difficult budget choices facing members of Congress.
