The Athletics Committee is a primary committee in the UMD Shared Governance system.

Minutes and handouts often contain other documentation, including Athletics Department mission and vision statements, committee charges, etc. They also contain information about the Compliance Committee and the Athletic Gender Equity Committee (both related to the Athletics Committee but not part of Shared Governance), and there are some minutes from those committees specifically.

Some minutes are missing.

Historical note: The Athletics Committee was previously the Campus Athletic Committee, until the Bylaws were updated in late 2013/early 2014 (approved June 2014), though many materials use the names interchangeably after June 2014.

From the 2020 Bylaws of the UMD Campus Governance: In accordance with NCAA [National Collegiate Athletic Association] best practices for oversight, the campus Athletics Committee will provide review, advice, and advocacy to and for the athletic programs at UMD as a commitment to the overall well-being and academic experience of student athletes. Topics will include, but are not limited to, athletes’ academic progress, facilities, scheduling, public relations, and campus climate. The committee may establish working groups to focus on various areas such as gender equity, Title IX, and financial aid issues specific to UMD athletics. The campus Athletics Committee will, in conjunction with the UCC [University Coordinating Council], be empowered to advise the chancellor or chancellor’s representatives on campus athletic matters, foster the development of continued communication with the administration, and make recommendations to the appropriate standing committee or senate.
