Historical note: The Graduate Council appears to have been created as the Bylaws were being updated in late 2013 (approved June 2014), though it may have had a predecessor pre-2014. The name changed to Graduate Programs Committee in the Shared Governance review efforts in Spring 2017, effective Fall 2017.
From the 2020 Bylaws of the UMD Campus Governance: The UMD Graduate Programs Committee is the governing body for all aspects of graduate education at UMD, including curriculum and instruction, assessment of student learning, program review, and student affairs. It is advisory to Faculty Senate. The Graduate Programs Committee fosters communication with the administration (chancellor, vice chancellors) and makes recommendations to standing committees or senates.
