Persistent link for this community
Extension Department of Agricultural and Natural Resource Systems brings together University experts from many disciplines to address the complex demands put on our land and water and develop balanced, comprehensive solutions. We provide effective, research-based education and integrate diverse perspectives to address critical issues impacting Minnesota's food, agriculture, and natural resources. Because we are part of the communities we serve, we can identify needs early, set up related research as needed, and develop educational programs to bring information and training to the community.

Item 2021 Midwest Broccoli Trial Results(2021-12-17) Hoidal, Natalie, M; Rohwer, Charlie; Enjalbert, NicolasWe conducted a replicated broccoli trial at the Southern Research and Outreach Center (SROC) in Waseca, Minnesota, where we inoculated plots with black rot (Xanthamonas campestris pv. campestris). We also partnered with 80 farmers and gardeners to conduct mini trials at their farms. (Figure 1). Our goal was to screen for varieties of broccoli with tolerance to the pathogens black rot (Xcc) and Alternaria (Alternaria brassicicola). This report outlines preliminary results from the trials. Due to the hot, dry summer in the Midwest, disease pressure was minimal, particularly in the early planting.Item 2023 Minnesota Farm to School Price Report(2024-06-12) Pesch, RyanThis report summarizes the prices paid for a range of Minnesota farm product purchased by Minnesota schools in 2023 based on an analysis of 4,801 records from sales invoices.Item Asparagus production guide(2013) Fritz, Vincent A.; Rosen, Carl J.; Hutchinson, William D.; Becker, Roger L.; Beckerman, Janna; Wright, Jerry A.; Tong, Cindy B. S.; Nennich, TerryAsparagus is a high value specialty crop and the earliest producing spring vegetable. It currently is priced as a gourmet item and will remain in this category until growing, harvesting, and processing costs can be reduced. Although production in the United States is concentrated in California, Washington, and Michigan, many other areas have great production potential climatically and geographically. The cost to establish an asparagus field is substantial, so the decision to grow asparagus is one that should be thoroughly investigated. This publication describes the cultural practices that must be considered to produce asparagus successfully.Item Auger Safety(University of Minnesota Extension, 2012)Item Bee Block Survey Protocols(University of Minnesota Extension, 2018) Satyshur, Colleen; Forsberg, BrittItem Best Management Practices for Nitrogen on Coarse Textured Soils(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Rehm, George; Lamb, John; Rosen, Carl J; Randall, GylesItem Best management practices for nitrogen use in Minnesota: Best management practices for nitrogen application(University of Minnesota, Extension Service, 2008) Lamb, John; Rehm, George; Rosen, Carl; University of Minnesota, Extension Service; Randall, GylesItem Best management practices for Nitrogen use in northwestern Minnesota(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Sims, Albert; Rehm, George; Lamb, JohnItem Best management practices for Nitrogen use in South-Central Minnesota(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Randall, Gyles; Rehm, George; Lamb, John; Rosen, Carl JItem Best Management Practices for Nitrogen Use in Southeastern Minnesota(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Randall, Gyles; Rehm, George; Lamb, JohnItem Best management practices for Nitrogen use in southwestern and west-central Minnesota(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Rehm, George; Lamb, John; DeJong-Hughes, Jodi; Randall, GylesItem Best Management Practices for Nitrogen Use: Irrigated Potatoes(University of Minnesota Extension, 2008) Rosen, Carl J; Bierman, Peter MItem Building Environmental Youth Leadership: A High-school Service-learning Curriculum(University of Minnesota Extension, Regents of the University of Minnesota, 2006) Meyer, Nathan, J.; Meyer, Rebecca, L.The Building Environmental Youth Leadership Team curriculum was made possible, in part, through funding from Minnesota's Lake Superior Coastal Program.
