Item Communication Perceptions and Preferences of First-Year College Students(2018-05) Radtke, Stacy LThis thesis is a thoughtful examination of the communication habits of first-year college students at a university in the Midwestern United States. It sought to discover which tools students use, how they use them, and how they would prefer to use them in relation to messages from their academic institution. Quantitative methods were used to analyze the results of a 21-item online survey questionnaire. The results reveal a strong preference for email and social media, and a distaste for print and digital signage. The data show that students consider academic personnel that they share a relationship with (e.g., instructor, teaching assistant, advisor) to be the most important source of information.
